1939, Kaunas, Lituania<\/h4>\n

Nato nel distretto di Kaunas in Lituania nel 1939, uno dei grandi maestri della fotografia, ha ricevuto il Premio nazionale lituano per la cultura e l’arte, l’Ordine del Granduca lituano Gediminas e il premio Dr. Erich Salomon.
Studia giornalismo presso l\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Vilnius, \u00e8 stato uno dei co-fondatori e presidente della\u00a0Photography Art Society of Lithuania, un centro per la divulgazione e l\u2019educazione fotografica che vanta la crescita di artisti quali Aleksandras Matsiyauskas, Algimantas Kunchius, Romualdas Rakauskas e Romualdas Poznerskis.
Le opere di Antanas Sutkus sono state incluse nelle pi\u00f9 note collezioni d’arte e cultura del mondo, tra cui il Lithuanian Museum of Art, la National Library of France di Parigi, l’International Center of Photography di New York, la Dresden Art Gallery, il Victoria and Albert Museum di Londra, il Museum of Modern Art di Stoccolma, l’Art Institute di Chicago, il Museum of Photography di Parigi.
L’opera pi\u00f9 importante di Sutkus \u00e8 „People of Lithuania“, un progetto iniziato nel 1976, quando la Lituania faceva ancora parte dell’Unione Sovietica, con l’intento di documentare i cambiamenti nella vita del popolo lituano, con opere in bianco e nero che si soffermano sui ritratti di persone comuni.
Ebbe l’occasione di trascorrere del tempo con Jean-Paul Sartre e Simone de Beauvoir nel 1965, quando visitarono la Lituania.<\/p>\n
