Galleria Immaginaria Open Space presents Michelangelo’s David and Andy Warhol, an exhibition dedicated to the renowned Italian photographer Aurelio Amendola, on view from April 24 to June 4 2026.
BIOGRAPHY
Born in Pistoia, Amendola began photographing in the 1960s as a self-taught artist and became one of the leading figures in art photography. His work focuses particularly on sculpture, which he explores through powerful images of masterpieces by artists ranging from Donatello and Gian Lorenzo Bernini to Antonio Canova.
In the early 1990s he devoted much of his research to the sculpture of Michelangelo, developing a celebrated body of work in black and white that highlights the dramatic power of sculptural form.
At the same time, Amendola created an extraordinary gallery of portraits of major twentieth-century artists, including Giorgio de Chirico, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol, photographed in his famous Factory.
Amendola’s photographs have been exhibited in museums and institutions across Europe, Asia, and the United States.
The exhibition presents a selection of works dedicated to sculpture and contemporary artists, offering a visual journey between classical heritage and modern art through the lens of one of Italy’s most important art photographers.
