Alessandro Bargellini

opening Saturday 6th September 2025, h 6.00 pm

On Saturday 6 September at 6pm, Florence’s Galleria Immaginaria will present the exhibition Eidolon by artist Alessandro Bargellini.

The exhibition brings together a selection of recent works that explore the territories of painting as a lyrical and specular space, a place of inner questioning and universal vision. The title of the exhibition, Eidolon, refers to the Greek term used in Platonic thought to indicate a distorted image of reality, a mirage, an incorporeal vision.
It is from this suggestion that Bargellini constructs a path in which the pictorial gesture becomes a perceptive and meditative experience, a language of relationship between matter and spirit, between the time of memory and the space of imagination, between the search for truth and the possibility of its multiple forms.
Curator Nicola Nuti writes: “Standing in front of the jumble of canvases in Alessandro Bargellini’s studio, I wondered about the reason for the uninterrupted soliloquy, full of authentic passion, that unfolds in his painting, picture after picture. […] Attentive to the structural articulation of the surface, he manages to organise the support for the colour three-dimensionally, most often a burnt white and black, with rare flashes of red or blue, while at times it is the colour itself that takes shape. […] Bargellini’s creative proposal is embodied in the essentiality of his linguistic structure, stripped down yet rich, extroverted but also loaded with multiple meanings, logical and plausible hypotheses.”
Bargellini does not seek a univocal dimension: his painting moves rather in the direction of lyrical abstraction, as demonstrated by the Eidolon series. In this context, even the writing that occasionally appears in the backgrounds takes the form of a suspended sign, a reference to incommunicability, to the memory of what has been.
