Materiali Onirici | Typomachia
Gianni Gaggiani6th – 30th August 2024
opening Tuesday 6th August 2024, h 7 pm
In the fight against the evanescence of our images and words, Gianni Gaggiani creates his own original technique, Typomachia, which seems to want to fix the fleetingness of thoughts, giving substance to the surreal. Through a play of colors and transparencies, with the use of pastels on transparent plexiglass sheets, then inserted into a three-dimensional space, Gaggiani offers us a kaleidoscopic vision of the world, inviting us to explore a new dimension. Through the superposition of two-dimensional planes, the artist wishes to circumvent their flatness, creating a dialogue between them to give a new perspective of depth to look at, in a sort of rebellion against the flat and two-dimensional page. The result is a kaleidoscopic game of mixtures of graphic signs and colours, because as Laura Imai Messina reminds us «talking about color is an act of imagination», an operation that requires accepting its never defined and irregular nature. Dreams, like colors, are fragments of fantasy that take shape only in our mind. To grasp them, we must first dream of them, embracing their impalpable essence and letting them transport us beyond the boundaries of reality. Gaggiani’s Typomachie – as he tells us – are woven of “characters and glyphs, atoms of the words that give meaning to our lives”, they are thin intertwined filaments, where the real and the imaginary merge in an embrace of mysterious forces. They are the echoes of words heard, read and written, signs of a writing born from a mind that has stored many books, because it is no coincidence that the titles of his works take inspiration from the great classics of world literature: Decameron, Lolita Moby- DicK, Memoirs of Hadrian… Freedom grows in knowledge, and this is how the colors of the unconscious allow fears to dance with desires and hopes mix to generate new spaces. Gaggiani’s works are environments in which colors and words transform and change, flowing as if in a sea of infinite possibilities.
Fleeting images of new worlds, unknown lands and boundless skies reveal themselves like mirages, which when backlit reveal the most hidden secrets. Typomachia is a treasure chest of vibrant emotions that flow, bringing with them the unconscious joy of childhood and the anguish of the unsaid, while in reality symbols and letters create writing that is difficult to decipher, but which seems to refer to a new and mysterious language. In this lawless realm, where time and space stand still, the mind dives, exploring Gaggiani’s vast typomachic expanses. This is how dream materials become a bridge between the visible and the invisible, between the concrete and the abstract, a constant reminder to explore the depths of the soul and celebrate the magic of the imagination.
