opens 9th November 2024, h 6.00 pm

The Galleria Immaginaria of Florence is pleased to present the exhibition OLTRE MARE (OLTRE SEA) of the artist Stefano Turrini.

The exhibition compares and relates the chaos of shapeless, liquid matter which gradually solidifies and crystallizes into increasingly smooth, increasingly clear geometric structures until it reaches white, light.
OLTRE SEA is a cycle of pictorial works where the paintings are produced starting from the construction of the wooden frame on which the artist, nailing fragments of canvas onto this bumpy surface, intervenes with acrylic colours, chalk and vinyl glue. All the steps and stratifications remain visible in some details of the finished work, everything is legible and traceable including the rust of the nails.
Stefano Turrini’s work, for decades now, has focused on an area of vision and form that stimulates us to look “beyond”.

«The paper remains one of his favorite supports on which he manages to stratify his work, layer upon layer, material upon material. He therefore expertly navigates this fluid and apparently ungovernable “sea”, extracting from a possible drift, with a skillful and timely subtraction, severe, predominantly monochromatic forms.»
— Andrea Granchi

«According to his interpretation, there is an infinite space beyond which everything may seem obvious, but it is not, in fact the laceration of the colors mixed on the paper glued onto the canvas, on which the values should be written and affirmed, witnesses of our life, where the the artist instead traces on it some geometric signs necessary to declare the duty that man has to participate socially with the awareness of his own rigor, but at the same time a metaphor appears, the sheet is all crumpled, the color has been slammed with violence, with anger, for the need to affirm his need to fight not to give up on a world that would like to distance us from our true and unique values of life.»
— Carlo Frittelli

«The blue shape imposes itself on the surface. It gives her a reason for life and completeness. It is itself “being” and overlaps with everything else. The rest is a background of material painting, almost dramatic… perhaps it is just a wait… something that moves and suggests abstract figures that will be realized in the “blue shape”.»
— Riccardo Guarneri

«Stefano Turrini’s works are “an encrypted story made of fragile materials, almost relics of other stories”.»
— Fabio De Poli
