WANTED: la rupture poetique
Peter Assmann19th September – 2nd October 2024
opening Saturday 19th September 2024, h 3.30 pm
Between form and imagination – this is how Peter Assmann‘s art comes to Florence. On Thursday September 19th at 3.30 p.m., the “Caffè with the artist” will take place at the headquarters of the Accademia degli Arti del Disegno (Via Orsanmichele 4). Marco Tonelli presents the book “Apollo and the Muses. Studies in Honour of Peter Assmann”, edited by Paolo Bertelli (ZeL-Verlag, Treviso 2024). At 5 p.m. follows the opening of the exhibition “Peter Assmann. WANTED: la rupture poetique”, curated by Paola Artoni and designed by David Palterer. The exhibition runs until October 2nd.
On this occasion, the curator writes:
“With WANTED: la rupture poetique, Peter Assmann, Austrian artist and academic of the art of drawing, sets out in search of the fine line that separates reality from imagination. And he does this with a cycle of about twenty works on paper, in the sense of determining the place where sign and color meet the word. The quick touch, the superimpositions, the melancholy and the irony are intensified in his figurative worlds, which are sketched in timeless spaces. In the turbulent years we are experiencing, with the still burning memory of the Covid years, with endless international conflicts and an overwhelming climate crisis, artists cannot and must not give up being the guardians of our time. Assmann reprocesses the information that bombards us every day by rereading the images and emotions of the messages that reach us from social media and the media. From this complex layering, he creates a personal, artistic line of interpretation of everyday life. WANTED! In Assmann’s pages there is the whole rebellion of the poets who seek the light of rebirth in the cracks of the world.”
