Dadamaino
Dadamaino, the pseudonym of Edoarda Emilia Maino (Milan, 1930–2004), was a self-taught Italian artist and a key figure of the Milanese and international avant-garde of the postwar period. After graduating in medicine, she devoted herself to art and became part of the experimental circle around the Bar Giamaica, where she met artists such as Piero Manzoni and Lucio Fontana.
She emerged in the late 1950s with the Volumi, pierced canvases that challenged the two-dimensional surface of painting. Over the following decades, she pursued optical-dynamic, color, and sign-based research, participating in movements such as Azimuth, Group Zero, and Nouvelle Tendance. Major cycles include The Movement of Things, The Alphabet of the Mind, and the Constellations.
Her work was shown in major international venues, including the Venice Biennale and the PAC in Milan, and she is now regarded as a leading figure in contemporary Italian art.
