The exhibition “LE CATTIVE MANIERE” by the artist Pietro Calabretta opens on Thursday 31st March 2022 at 6.00 pm at Galleria Immaginaria in Florence.
The exhibition is inspired by his “Manifesto degli Smacchiaioli” theorized in 2012 and which, with irony, recalls the interventionist painters of the early 20th century.

“It’s time for change … it’s time to clean up”, says the Manifesto, wanting to offer the opportunity to change the world through the elimination of  “macchie” (stains) and use one colour only, white, synonymous with essentiality, openness, change, but also with silence that carries with it a sense of emptiness and loneliness.

Behind this monochrome, ironic contents are hidden, puns that evoke Marcel Duchamp’s Dadaism, synonyms of experimentation, leading back to that particular artistic language which renders the artist eclectic and self-deprecating.
The twelve proposed works, made by using a spatula with a thick layer of acrylic tempera on glass, represent a sort of Via Crucis. Each one is a chapter in the book of humanity that leads to the rebirth of man with a sense of hope towards the future, because “white is the beginning and the end of everything, like war that destroys and then rebuilds from the rubble” (A. Rosi).
