Galleria Immaginaria in Florence is pleased to present the exhibition “Vuoto” by artists Angela Longares and Anita Mollo, alias Akronos.

A constant in their artistic work is the Menabò, the idea of the book in progress, made in collage, a compositional technique that has characterized the arts of the 20th century, chosen for the strong attention to concreteness, material consistency, and the physicality of language.

And it is precisely language that is the main vehicle, engraving writing with cuneiform and pre-Italic alphabets on clay or wood or canvas to form a harmonious whole with painting (almost always blue) seeking not the meaning but the rhythm, the full, the Void and the erasures to reach a possible balance between their world and elsewhere.

These Menabò, presented in this exhibition, are made with laboratory waste, portions of pages that tell, with a variety of meanings, their artistic journey starting from the 80s, and can be considered private autobiographies.

Akronos’ writing, which invades the place of painting, thus losing its traditional connotation, breaks the existing complicity between verbal meaning and graphic meaning.

The attention to the concreteness, materiality and physicality of language, enhanced in the collage technique, by the choice of materials and unconventional supports, has favored the restoration of the form of writing, its plastic aspect and its spatial location.

These writings represent a memory of the past that translates into a memory of the future, thus giving a sense of continuity to their artistic work. This continuity comes from the awareness of who they were and from reaching out to who they will be. A future to be written not on a white and cold page but on a page scratched and decorated with signs left by those who came before us. The memory of the future is a vortex of opposites, paradoxes and antitheses, in search of the underlying truth torn from the infinite and shapeless void.
