Eliana Sevillano

1947, La Paz, Bolivia

Born in La Paz in Bolivia in 1947, she moved to Caracas in Venezuela, where in 1964 she graduated from the “Cristobal Rojas” Academy of Fine Arts.
She joined the “El Pez Dorado” group of writers, filmmakers and plastic artists. In the group’s gallery she held her first solo exhibition focused on the representation of the human figure.  From 1967, she abandoned her interest in the figurative to approach impulsive gestures, opening her way to Abstractionism.
The peculiarity of her work is centred on the square, an element of illustrious ancestry  (just think of Malevich), a symbol of the image of the cosmos on ‘a human-scale’.
In 1972 she moved to Italy for the first time and took a Nude Course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome.
Her work is appreciated in personal and collective exhibitions that she holds  in Italy, Venezuela, the United States and Spain.
